Holiday – Part 1

The first of a few parts post of our holiday to the midwest.  We packed up the van and loaded the kids and were off, early Saturday morning and arrived in Eureka, SD, my hometown Sunday late afternoon.  The kids were great in the car – exceptional really.  Thank goodness for DVD player, GameBoy, a little girl who reads and reads and reads.

Even Beckett was pretty good – however he did have a few hours of what appeared to be his sheer sanity breaking down.  He always recovered though – thank goodness.

We had so much fun in Eureka – the kids really love it there.  No where else can then wander with such freedom.    They climbed trees, got lawn mower rides, played at the school playground where I grew up playing (they think that’s so cool) and even got to climb around all the Eureka fire Department vehicles (with permission from the chief).  Funny how in a small town, all those vehicles were not only left open – but keys in the ignition.

We got to spend a lot of time with my grandparents (my mom’s parents).  They are so sweet and lovely.  A real treasure.June 292

And Campbelle got to try on about a million fancy dresses.  You can figure with three daughters and loads of proms, bridesmaid weddings for each of them…. and that adds up to a WHOLE lotta dresses that are now stored in a box in the garage.  Perfect for a little girl who loves dress up.  I, however, was a bit worried that something might have made a home inside that box of dresses.  Fortunately not the case.

Here’s Campbelle’s favorite dress.  And a photo of her beautiful Aunt Gina.

She hopes that Gina will let her borrow it for her prom someday - “What ever this PROM thing is anyway.”

Next stop:  DeSmet SD (Laura Ingalls Wilder home) SDSU (my alma mater) and Sioux Falls, SD for reunion with dear friends.

Fairy and Sparrow Men gardens

Before we left on summer holiday, the kids and I made the coolest little craft project.  I stole the idea from this blog here.  (Tons of other great projects from that blog planned for later.)

Christian wasn’t all that keen to invite fairies, but when Campbelle told him that boy fairies all called ‘Sparrow Men’ it was all good.

Mushrooms were made from polymer clay and idea came from the Family Fun magazine.

I’m not very crafty on my own accord, but I can sure steal a good idea when I see it.
