new rug
I got a new rug for the living room. Actually, I got A rug – I’ve been looking for one since moving into the house almost two years ago. (So this would be our first – not to confuse you by “a new rug” – suggesting that I’ve replaced an old rug. Ok, I’ll stop now). I found it on Craigslist. And it was a steal. I was a bit skeptical at first, considering the price for a 8x10, 100% wool, Pottery Barn rug. So we went into Seattle last weekend being prepared to walk away with nothing – because it was from a dirty house, smelling awful, or something like that. But it was great …. and so we got a new rug.
However, I’m not entirely sure I like it or not. I thought it had more blue-tones in it – to match my wall color; but once in the room it took on a whole new green feel. Not sure it all blends well. Cool and warm mixing together. I like the furniture with the rug – it’s just the wall color (light blue) and the rug that I’ve lost some sleep over.
Leif is no help here…. he thinks it’s just fine. But I know he’s not looking at it from my keen, design eye. And besides, I think he’s just happy to put an end to the two year long rug conversation and is tired of me sending him emails to work with the subject line: Check out this rug.
So I need your help. Tell me what you think by voting for the following options:
A. The rug and the paint flow nicely together.
B. Sell the rug back on Craigslist and restart the quest. Maybe something zebra.
C. Paint the room. (please don’t vote for paint the room – I really don’t think I have that in me, especially since I still have to paint our bedroom/bathroom sometime this spring; and painting the room actually means painting the entire downstairs since that all flows together. So please don’t vote for paint the room.)
D. Keep the rug and keep the paint and look at the room as an eclectic, no rules apply, design statement! And add more greenish elements.
And now that I look more closely at this photo – not sure I like the lamp anymore either. Oye vay! (But since Leif did break that lamp and it just barely balancing to keep straight – I really should buy a new one.)

Hmmmm....In all honesty, I'm going with B or D. I think the rug looks nice with the furniture, but I get what you're saying about the rug with the paint color. If you choose to go the B route, I'd look for something a little more contemporary...more 'Jill' style. If you choose to go with D, yeah, maybe some greens & blues mixed together would add something. Or the zebra print may not be that far off base!
Well, you could think of it as mirroring the outside world. The blue walls are the sky. The red couches are red rose bushes. The green rug is the grass. See? As beautiful as the outside world! I actually do see what you are saying, in all seriousness. Glad to know I'm not the only one that these types of things bug. :)
I vote for "find a new rug". It is so not Jill!!! Sorry!!! Don't go for Zebra though, something more contemporary.
I actually really like the rug. I vote: KEEP IT!
