Happy 4th Birthday Campbelle

We've all had a fantastic day.... Campbelle woke ready to celebrate her day. She started her day by giving some books to her preschool in honor of her birthday. She had picked some of her favorite ones to give to school. Then it was off to Build a Bear workshop.. then pictures at JCP... and then to the airport to pick up Farmor and Farfar. What a birthday!!

A big highlight of her day was going to Build a Bear Workshop where she got to pick a stuffed animal to 'build'. She really liked stuffing her kitty and putting in the heart and wishes. It is such a sweet, fun place. Campbelle loved it. She named her pink cat "Princess Madeline Kitty Kat"

Gifts Galore!

What a 4th birthday! Campbelle was one lucky girl. She received loads of great things from Polly Pockets, to baby dolls, tons of books and her favorite Prizessin Lillifee (from Norway) pjs and underwear. All we heard from her were squeals of delight and giggles.

Everyone got a little surprise from Farmor and Farfar... Christian got this new raincoat and hat. He can hardly wait to play in the rain - good thing we are living where we are, lots of chances to use it!!

Isn't there something a little bit freaky about this picture? Trust me, her legs are both intact.

A day at the Fair

We went to the Puyallup Fair yesterday and had a really nice time. We walked through a Reptile world (which Christian loved, Campbelle looked disgusted) and did some crafts (see the lovely hat picture below). We watched some dirt bike tricksters and climbed on a firetruck and tons more. It was a really fun day and the kids were great. I think they wished it was the fair every day... especially with all the cotton candy!

Rides

The kids had fun on all of the rides. Christian especially liked this motorcycle ride - he didn't want to get off when the ride was over. Campbelle redeemed herself on the ferris wheel ride (she tried to ride last summer with Maddi and Will - but they stopped so she could get off). She told me she knew she was older this year and she just knew she could do it.
The hot air balloon ride was also a big hit. Lots of smiles and lots of laughs... hands even went up in the air a few times in glee. But.....

....things took a turn for the worse when they went on the 'roller coaster' ride. I asked Campbelle about a million times if she wanted to and really pointed out how fast and jerky the ride was.... but she insisted that she was almost 4 and could handle it. Christian meet the height requirement and only had to be 2 years old... we figured he was a bit of a dare devil and decided to let them. It was all smiles and hands waving in the air, the both mimicked the screams of the other kids and giggled at each other in the cart. And then the ride started. It took about two times around for the look of sheer panic to set in her face and by the third time there were lots of tears (thank goodness there were only 4 times around). Christian just seemed to watch Campbelle and imitate her expressions. Afterwards her knees were so shakey she could hardly walk. When she regained her composure she told us "I will try that again when I'm 5... well, maybe 6". Christian just stated that he didn't like it and when asked if he wants to do it again he said "no tanks."

Today I Choose to be Grateful

Those of you who keep up with the Dais girls blogs may have already read my sister Tammy’s blog today, it was a wonderful tribute to our mom. Today marks the 5th anniversary of her death. She died after a nearly 3 year battled with inflammatory breast cancer. And having read Tammy’s blog, it makes me realize we have all grieved and coped remarkably well the past five years. And make me know that our mom would be glad.

For the past few days, I’ve been dreading this 5 year anniversary, I’ve shed tears in anticipation of this day and felt that all too familiar ache in my heart with greater intensity. But amazedly, I woke today with a calm serenity. Today I awoke knowing I had a choice in how I would receive this momentous day.

Today I choose not be sorrowful and I chose to not let this day slip from me with sad thoughts of all we’ve missed with her. Today I choose to be grateful for all that I’ve had and all that I have in my life. Today I will get through this day with the same grace, courage and spirit that embodied my mom.

I am grateful for the gift of 29 years with her.
I am grateful for the gift of my two sisters – who travel this journey along side me.
I am grateful for my many friends - they have listened to countless stories of her
I am grateful for my Leif - he is my anchor.
I am grateful for my children – for I know she lives in them and I know she watches over them and blesses them.

Today I choose to be grateful.

Bob the Builder

Christian was in heaven at the Seattle Children's Museum this past weekend. His favorite, Bob the Builder was on exhibit. He loved climbing on all the equipment but 'Rolly' (the steam roller, above) is probably his favorite.
On our way out, Bob himself actually made an appearance. Our shy little Christian wanted so badly to give him a high-5, but everytime at the last moment, he chickened out.

Campbelle, of course, was just happy to perform her stuff on a real stage!

Snoqualmie Falls

The kids and I walked around at Snoqualmie Falls today. Christian would have nothing to do with standing and looking over the edge. In fact, the picture below shows how close he would actually get.

Much to Christian's relief, we left the whole waterfall thing and went exploring around the park area. The giant tree was a big hit.

Foundation is poured

The foundation is being poured at our new house. We walked around out there this weekend. Within the next few weeks we should have a close date... probably sometime in July!! Above you see Leif watching TV in what will be the family room.

And here he is in a small little area of the garage, I'm calling it his 'man-space' because he plans to create a little work area and he even thought he'd brew his own beer back there (?!?!).

Happy Easter og God Paaske

We had a great Easter today. It started off great, when I was teaching Sunday School during first service to a bunch of kids that we really excited about the true meaning of Easter. It was a fun lesson with a really great group of kids. Campbelle sang with the kids choir during both services. She is such a little performer - she really gets into this sort of thing and sings her little heart out. Gina treated us to a fantastic brunch after church... homemade quiche and danishes! Very impressive. The kids hunted around the house for their 'goodies' including play-dough, stickers and some jelly beans. The sweetest thing of the day though, was hearing Campbelle tell Gina and I the story of Easter and how "Jesus died for us because sometimes we act naughty." Hope you all had a happy, blessed Easter.

Decorating

We decorated eggs this morning. Christian thought it was pretty cool how they changed colors in the water, and Campbelle took her careful time making sure they were decorated precisely. And surprisingly, only about 4 (out of 18) ended up being dropped, smashed or just mysteriously broken?!?! (hmmm, I think the boy had something to do with that one!)

Easter Egg Hunt

On Friday, our neighbor Marie had an Easter Egg hunt in the backyard with all our buddies (we missed Cameron though, he was at school). It was alot of fun and the kids found tons of eggs.

Movie Meme

1.Name a movie that you have seen more than 10 times. Kids movies aside, I’m not real big on re-watching movies, but…..To Kill a Mockingbird...
2.Name a movie that you’ve seen multiple times in the theater. ---
3.Name an actor that would make you more inclined to see a movie. Russel Crowe and Cate Blanchet - they just pick really good movies to be a part of.

4.Name an actor that would make you less likely to see a movie. Tom Cruise – he’s just typically not staring in my kind of movie… and he’s a bit of a whack-o.
5.Name a movie that you can and do quote from. I used to know Breakfast Club by heart – but not anymore, I might have to rewatch it.
6.Name a movie musical that you know all of the lyrics to all of the songs. I loved Chicago… even bought the soundtrack. And also RENT, not necessarily from the movie (which was terrible) but from the actual Broadway musical (fantastic).

7.Name a movie that you have been known to sing along with. Most recently Annie – Campbelle and I went to the play a few weeks ago and she and I really like to belt out ‘Tomorrow’ and “It’s a Hard Knock Life”

8.Name a movie that you would recommend everyone see. For recent movies, I would agree with my sister: Little Miss Sunshine and 300 . An Inconvenient Truth for cultural and environmental reasons. Finding Neverland and Amelie for just feeling good.
9.Name a movie that you own. Kids movies aside, we really don’t own many. Sideways was a gift from my brother-in- law… I really liked that movie

10.Name an actor that launched his/her entertainment career in another medium but who has surprised you with his/her acting chops. My sister said Will Smith, and that’s all I can think of right now. But I’m not all that crazy about him.
11.Have you ever seen a movie in a drive-in? If so, what? I have, but for the life of me can’t think of what we saw. It was with Tia and Paul Hertel on a camping trip one summer…. What was that movie?

12.Ever made out in a movie? Yes – it wasn’t the drive-in movie one though… and thankfully with my husband!

13.Name a movie that you keep meaning to see but just haven’t yet gotten around to it. I’ve never actually seen The Godfather movies in their entirety. Maybe someday.
14.Ever walked out of a movie? Don’t think I ever walked out, but Gina and I were very close in the movie 8 mm. It was so sick and disturbing.
15.Name a movie that made you cry in the theater. I’ve cried at several… but can only remember Titanic right now…

16.What’s the last movie you saw in the theater? 300 – it was filmed amazingly and really quite beautiful
17.What’s your favorite/preferred genre of movie? I love most movies… drama, foreign, documentary, musical, action…. I’m not such a sucker for romantic comedies though and anything with Will Ferrel and Jim Carrey – no thank you.

18.What’s the first movie you remember seeing in the theater? I remember Ghandi very young – not sure if our parents couldn’t find a babysitter or what… And I also remember Stephen King’s Christine – but I would hope that those weren’t my first ones.

19.What movie do you wish you had never seen? I’m sure there are several… but I’m notorious for either falling asleep on the couch or just getting up in going to bed if a movie is dumb… like Running with Scissors
20.What is the weirdest movie you enjoyed? Grizzly Man (strange documentary about a man who thinks he’s a bear and actually ends up being killed by one…) V for Vendetta – I think because I didn’t think I would like it.

21.What is the scariest movie you’ve seen? Looking back, probably the Exorcist. Most recently, The Grudge
22.What is the funniest movie you’ve seen? I laughed at Borat - actually I laughed harder at Leif when he had to leave the room during a really ‘uncomfortable’ scene… Little Miss Sunshine – the dance routine was fantastic!

Poker Tourney

Saturday night our friends Susan and Dan hosted their 3rd Annual Relay for Life Texas Hold'Em Poker tournament. It was a lot of fun and we raised a ton of money for Relay for Life. Last year, Leif was the first one eliminated from the tournament. So this year, he set his sights a bit higher and was just hoping to NOT be the very first one out. Low and behold... he actual won the entire thing! I have to get that boy to Vegas!!

Easter Egg Hunt

Saturday morning was and Easter egg Hunt and brunch at our church. The kids had a fun time.

This is Easter egg hunting in the soggy Northwest. Poor kids had to 'look' for eggs indoors due to the rainy weather.... oh well, they still got tons of cool stuff.
Christian tried to eat as much candy as he could shove into his mouth before we realized what he was doing and limited his intake. Smart kid, no doubt.
Campbelle excited about all her goodies.
